I believe this Dodge was the first truck to be purchased by the Ritches (Ritchie?) family in Haddington.
Their business was market gardening, and the
truck
was used to take their produce to market.
Where was the market.... Edinburgh?
Through time additional trucks were added to
the business &
the firm were asked if they could transport
other people's
garden produce, so a new part of the
undertaking started
in 1954 as a general haulage company.
This Kew Dodge
is a 1952, 6 ton model with (probably)
a Perkins P6 diesel engine.
Perkins employed
a badge, not seen here, of four conjoined chrome
circles to denote
that the vehicle was fitted with one of
their engines.
The main part of the cab is, I think, by
"Pressed Steel Fisher"
and similar cabs were used on contemporary
Fordson's
and some models of Leyland Comet.
As far as I know this truck (SS 7381) has, thankfully, been saved for preservation
Although the
signage on the cab door clearly says "Haddington"
the owners name doesn't look like
"Ritchie"!!
Do you have any more info about this truck
or the company?
