This photograph was taken in April 1926.
The old livery stables, whose entrance is seen behind the buses, were
converted into a garage
by William Simpson who also operated a bus service to Haddington until 1929.
The train service from Gifford to Edinburgh was notoriously slow and
Gifford passengers
were often inclined to use Haddington Railway Station instead.
Initially the Gifford to Edinburgh train travelled at an average of just
12mph,
but by World War I the running speed was up to a whopping 18mph.
The corner shop was owned by
a Miss Cunningham at this time.
