This is Tait the Butchers in 1941.
This shop was situated in Main Street opposite the present Gifford
Garage and nowadays serves
as an important "shop window" for village events, courtesy of Mark Nairn.
Prior to Tait, the butcher
shop was run by "Bald". After Tait came "Scambler & Waller", "George Laing"
and "James B Meek".
Bert Tait is the gentleman with the
impressive moustache and the lady on the right may be
his sister, Mrs Taylor, who stayed in Walden Terrace & whose husband was in
the navy.
The young chap in the centre is thought to be David Rigby.
The number plate on the van - SS 494 - would be much prized nowadays as,
indeed, would the van itself.
