This is a spectacular picture of the waterfall which was
adjacent to the bridge in
Station Road.
The fall provided a lade for a
nearby mill and
a fish "ladder"
was also incorporated
into the design.
Sadly, this beautiful structure was largely destroyed
during the severe
floods of 1948.
If you have any further information
(or
photographs)
it'd be much appreciated.
To see how the falls look nowadays go to the
"Gifford Gallery" link.
I've had an attempt at slightly
"colourising" the image.
It's a trickier exercise than I anticipated!
The trees and stones aren't bad,
but the water is decidedly "iffy"
