Instructions to Staff

Despite the severe restrictions regarding the use of Level Crossings (above), I believe that in the 1920's
a van driver was killed after colliding with a train at the Crossing just west of Gifford on the Saltoun Rd.
The course of the railway can still be seen either side of the road at this point, & given the relative visibility
of the Crossing, & slow vehicle speeds, it's hard to envisage how such an accident happened.

The Gifford & Garvald Railway was absorbed by the North British Railway,
which in turn became part of the London & North Eastern Railway (LNER)
upon grouping in 1923.

This blank document would, I think, have been used as a general purpose
goods list, receipt etc. relevant to Ormiston station and
their dealings with Joseph Phillips & Co. of London.

I've no idea who "Phillips" were or what commodities they dealt in.
I'll happily be corrected on any of the above information.

a slight double entendre!
