During the 1960's there were several changes to
the committee.
First it was joined by the new Minister, the Rev.
G. D. Monro.
Then, in 1962, Robert McNaughtan retired from the office of
Clerk and
Treasurer
which he had held for 50 years.
He remained on the
Committee and his clerical duties were taken over
by Ian Todd.
The
Marquis ceased to attend meetings in 1963 and the
Chairmanship was
shared between the minister and David Neilson.
Robert Tait left in
1966 and his place was taken by Tommy Carr.
There were two
revisions of Hall charges - in 1962 and 1965 -
each
involving
increases of about 10%, but the number of
bookings continued to rise,
reaching 170 or more in all but one of the years 1964 to 1967.
The
balances, however, began to look less healthy.
This was due partly to
a large increase in electricity bills, but more
to expenditure
on
necessary repairs to the fabric of the building,
which was increasingly
showing its age -
the doors,
the guttering, the steps, the heating.
Despite donations from the Feuars and grants from the County
Council,
it was only possible to respond to these problems as they
arose.
What was needed, if the problems were not to recur, was major
restoration work and,
though there seemed no prospect of that,
things
were in fact happening which
would eventually
bring about that
restoration.
