A Lost Waterfall

The waterfall adjacent to Station Rd. provided a lade for a nearby mill
and a fish "ladder" was also incorporated into the design.

This impressive image is a little deceptive as it gives the illusion
that the falls were somewhat grander than they really were.
Although there was a powerful head of water, the top of the
falls was not much taller than an adult male.

Sadly, this beautiful structure was largely destroyed during
the severe floods of 1948.

The view above (looking upstream) is taken
from as near to the original viewpoint
as I could get and shows all that
remains of the waterfall.

To the right, standing on the end of the
"promontory" and looking back at
the foundation walls.

The present day view looking downstream at the site
of the waterfall from the bridge in Station Rd.

On the right we're looking up at the same bridge
from the end of the left "promontory" seen above.

The talented, and apparently unbalanced, Mr Watt
is included purely for reasons of scale.
