Production
The committee decides what the production will be -
play/comedy/pantomime.
When the script is chosen, copies have to be purchased for the group and
performing rights have to be paid to the publisher.
Once decided, auditions are held for the characters in the production.
The group has a core of names but everyone is not always available due
to rehearsal timescales.
We do encourage new people to become involved with the production and it
is surprising
the talent out there
covering all age groups (budding actors in all of us!!)
Once the cast is chosen rehearsals begin.
A great many weeks are spent with readings held in the village hall
until the full dress rehearsal
is organised once the stage/set has been erected.
Set Plan/Build
The various components of the staging are stored in one of the local
farm barns for which we pay a yearly rental.
The designer initially works closely with the producer on the
requirements for the production.
We try to re-use as much of the materials from previous production by
modifying where required to keep costs to a minimum.
Once the set has been agreed, the set builders begin a mock stage build
at the farm approximately 2-3 weeks before the production .
This has the advantage of the stage basically being in kit form when we
erect it at the village hall.
The painting is also done at this time with joint taping of the set done
at the hall
ELC kindly erects and dismantles the stage for the group free of charge
The local scaffolders then build the frame for the set – this also is
done free of charge.
The lighting is then rigged on this frame and all the cables run to the
console.
At last the set is built on site - and should fit perfectly! - and the
finishing touches are added by the painters.
Props are then added and we are ready for the actors and the public.
The group are always grateful for the local help we receive.
Anyone can join the group, not just on committee but to help with all of
the above tasks whether you want to act, paint or just help generally.
Future Production 2008
The committee have already decided that
our next production will be an adaptation
of “Babes in the Wood”
with the script being written by Margaret Wyllie
and John Irving entitled... “Babes in Yester Wood”.
Auditions for this production will be announced at a future date.
The hall is booked for two weeks from Friday 21st November, when we
start constructing the set,
with the opening night of the panto on 1st December.
