The present Yester Church is a post Reformation building dating from 1710.
After almost 300 years of use the Kirk is now in need of major repair.

In 1720 James Witherspoon was installed as minister and it is
his more famous son,
the village born John Witherspoon (1723-94),
who signed the
American Declaration of Independence in1776.

John Witherspoon was President of the College of New Jersey
(Princeton University) from 1768.
Impressed by the education he had enjoyed at Edinburgh University
he recreated that system at Princeton.

A commemorative plaque, funded by the St Andrew's Society of the State of New York,
can be found on the wall opposite Gifford Church.

The church, at the junction of the Haddington & Duns Roads, is open to visitors.

Services are held every Sunday at 11.30am
